We are seeking an ambitious and dynamic Head of Retail to lead our trading team.
The ideal candidate will be a strong commercial retailer, experienced in improving both sales and profit across a portfolio of physical stores and ecommerce. We welcome candidates from all areas of retail.
About the role
- Develop and implement a robust retail strategy, with approval from the Director of Income Generation, Chief Executive, Board of Trustees and Trading Board
- Communicate the vision of what can be achieved using motivational and compassionate leadership skills to inspire the Retail team to be ambitious and deliver stretching targets
- Provide expertise, leadership, vision and guidance, to drive forward this strategic direction of the trading company, delivering outstanding performance in all aspects of retail
- Deliver a contemporary, engaging, customer focused retail experience across all retail channels
- Ensure all income and expenditure targets are achieved and that a consistent, high-quality service is delivered to all supporters, customers, Hospice staff and external agencies
- Oversee the delivery of excellent customer service throughout the retail operation, with supporter acquisition and gift aid generation at its core
- Set and achieve annual budgets and financial targets: monitor monthly, reforecast and act as required
- Track and evaluate both financial and non-financial performance. Create contingency plans to predict and rectify any variables and make recommendations to increase net contribution
- Overall responsibility for stock acquisition, stock and warehouse management
- Lead and source bought in goods, ensuring high margins, seasonal opportunities, and appropriate product ranging to avoid competing with donated goods and ensure sustainable stock acquisition
- Lead effective retail processes and procedures throughout the operation, within a culture of continuous improvement and ensure all employees and volunteers understand and adhere to them
- In conjunction with the team, develop and agree objectives and KPIs which are clearly aligned to the Hospice’s growth plans
- Develop and lead a strong and effective annual Trading plan, that includes seasonal changes, promotional mechanics and resource/marketing collateral
About you
- A strong track record of delivering successful commercial outcomes, ideally within a multi-channel retail environment
- Ability to analyse data to drive digital trading performance, with proven experience in data reporting and KPI development
- Experienced people manager with a history of setting clear, measurable goals, managing critical paths, and conducting effective team reviews
- Pragmatic problem solver, effective at delivering results in a constrained resource environment
- Process driven, with proven success in implementing change and enhancing systems
- Effective planner with an inquisitive mindset, always seeking to improve procedures and ways of working
- Resilient, positive and passionate about the organisation's charitable aims
- Sets an example as a leader - willing to 'muck in' as needed
