Occupational Therapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our Therapy Team. This role is based solely within our In Patient Unit and is integral to delivering our strategic vision of “Outstanding palliative care for all.”

As a specialist Occupational Therapist in palliative care, you will provide a high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centred service aimed at maximising quality of life for patients with complex palliative needs. Working as an autonomous practitioner within our multi-disciplinary team, you will deliver holistic assessments and interventions that support patients to reach, maintain and be supported in achieving their full potential.

This contract is initially fixed term for 12 months, with a review to permanent considered at the end of the 12 month contract. Working 14 hours per week, across 3 days (to be confirmed).


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage an autonomous caseload of patients with complex palliative needs
  • Undertake holistic assessments and deliver patient-centred interventions
  • Optimise non-pharmacological symptom management (e.g. pain, anxiety, fatigue, breathlessness)
  • Contribute to MDT meetings and discharge planning
  • Support smooth transitions between services and preferred places of care
  • Provide specialist advice, education and support to staff, including complex manual handling and equipment use
  • Contribute to service development and maintain accurate clinical records
  • Provide guidance to the Therapy Assistant


Skills and qualities

Essential

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration and membership of RCOT
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Understanding of palliative rehabilitation
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong organisational and IT skills

Desirable

  • Experience in oncology and/or palliative care
  • Post graduate experience in Oncology or palliative care
  • Experience in neurology or community settings
  • Experience delivering group or virtual sessions
